Aberystwyth University possesses a long and distinguished record of undertaking cutting-edge research of international significance. Our research activity has been recognised as being world-leading or internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigour.
In recent years Aberystwyth has successfully licensed a number of products and services, and our Technology Transfer team works closely with businesses to develop and commercialise world class technologies. Areas of recent commercialisation and on-going industrial development include:

Our most recent ‘Research Highlights’ showcase many of the areas where our knowledge transfer in commercial areas is on-going. To support this pipeline Aberystwyth University manages its commercial activity such as technology transfer, consultancy, contract research and strategic partnerships through the newly formed (2013) Department of Research, Business & Innovation. With a team of 50 staff, RB&I provides specialist support for research and enterprise activities at Aberystwyth University, including facilitating collaborative and commercial ventures.
For researchers and other colleagues we provide a wide range of services, from supporting funding applications & costing projects, to engaging with external partners & commercialising innovations. A core value underpinning our services is to further reduce the administrative burden on academic colleagues in the context of research and enterprise activity, through streamlining processes and support structures.
RB&I Director Gary Reed leads the team supporting and facilitating the commercialisation and knowledge transfer activities of 18 university departments covering a full spectrum of services to businesses – both to SME’s and large corporations. Recent restructuring of the university in 2013 to enhance and protect its research-focussed activities has led to the creation of 7 new Institutes from which new intellectual property, innovation and knowledge transfer can now arise:
